- முன்னாள் பிரதமர் ராஜீவ் காந்தி கொலைவழக்கில் 31 ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக சிறை தண்டனை அனுபவித்த ஏ.ஜி.பேரறிவாளனை விடுதலை செய்து உச்ச நீதிமன்றம் நேற்று (18.5.2022) தீர்ப்பளித்தது. அரசியலைமப்பு சட்டத்தின் 142-வது பிரிவின் கீழ் வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ள சிறப்பு அதிகாரத்தை பயன்படுத்தி அவரது மேல்முறையீட்டு மனு மீது உச்சநீதிமன்றம் இந்த உத்தரவை பிறப்பித்துள்ளது.
- பேரறிவாளனை விடுதலை செய்ய தமிழக அமைச்சரவை மூலம் 9.9.2018-ல் ஆளுநருக்கு பரிந்துரை செய்யப்பட்டு, அதன் மீது கிட்டத்தட்ட இரண்டரை ஆண்டுகள் முடிவெடுக்காமல் இருந்துள்ளார். இதற்கான காரணம் மற்றும் தாமதம் குறித்து உச்ச நீதிமன்றம் விசாரிக்க தொடங்கியபோது தான் மனுதாரருக்கு மன்னிப்பு அளிப்பது குறித்து தமிழக அரசின் பரிந்துரையை குடியரசு தலைவருக்கு ஆளுநர் அனுப்பி வைத்தார்.
- 161-வது சட்டப்பிரிவு: 1980-ம் ஆண்டு அரசியல் சாசன அமர்வு முன்னர் தொடரப்பட்ட மருராம் (எதிர்) மத்திய அரசு வழக்கில் அளித்த தீர்ப்பில், அரசியலமைப்பு சட்ட பிரிவு 161-ஐ பொறுத்தவரை தனது நிலைப்பாட்டை தெரிவித்து இருந்தது. இதில் ஆளுநர் என்பவர் முறை சார் தலைவர், நிறைவேற்றும் அதிகாரத்தின் ஒரே மையமாகவும் உள்ளார். ஆனால் அமைச்சரவையின் ஆலோசனையை தவிர்த்து அவர் செயல்பட இயலாது என தெரிவித்துள்ளது. ஆளுநர் விரும்பினாலும், விரும்பாவிட்டாலும் பிரிவு 161-ன் கீழ் அவர் அமைச்சரவை ஆலோசனைகளுக்கு கட்டுப்படுகிறார். சட்டப்பிரிவு 161-ன் கீழ் தண்டனையை குறைப்பது, மன்னிப்பு வழங்குவது தொடர்புடைய விவகாரங்களில்மாநில அமைச்சரவையின் ஆலோசனை ஆளுநரை கட்டுப்படுத்துகிறது. அதனால் இந்த வழக்கில் மாநில அமைச்சரவையின் பரிந்துரையை குடியரசு தலைவருக்கு ஆளுநர் அனுப்பி இருக்க கூடாது. இந்த செயலானது அரசியலமைப்பு சட்டத்துக்கு எதிரானது என்று கூறப்படுகிறது.
- ஹெலிகாப்டரில் இருந்து போர்கப்பல்களை தாக்கி அழிக்கும் ஏவுகணை சோதனையை பாதுகாப்பு ஆராய்ச்சி மேம்பட்டு நிறுவனம் மற்றும் இந்திய கடற்படை ஆகியவை இணைந்து நேற்று (18.5.2022) வெற்றிகரமாக மேற்கொண்டது. முற்றிலும் உள்நாட்டிலேயே தயாரிக்கப்பட்ட இந்த ஏவுகணை ஒடிசா மாநிலம் சண்டிப்பூர் கடல்பகுதியில் பரிசோதிக்கப்பட்டது.

- The Supreme Court yesterday (18.5.2022) acquitted AG Perarivalan, who was sentenced to more than 31 years in prison in the assassination case of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The apex court issued the order on his appeal using the special powers conferred under Section 142 of the Constitution.
- Perarivalan was recommended to the Governor by the Tamil Nadu Cabinet on 9.9.2018 for release and has not been decided on for almost two and a half years. It was only when the Supreme Court began to inquire into the cause and delay that the Governor forwarded to the President the recommendation of the Government of Tamil Nadu to pardon the petitioner.
- Article 161: In the judgment of the Federal Government in the Maruram (Opposition) case which proceeded the 1980 session of the Constitution, it stated its position under Section 161 of the Constitution. The governor is the systemic leader and the sole center of executive power. But he said he could not act without the advice of the cabinet. Whether the Governor wishes or not, he is bound by the advice of the Cabinet under Section 161. The Governor is subject to the advice of the Cabinet of Ministers of the State in matters relating to mitigation and pardon under section 161. The Governor should therefore not have forwarded the recommendation of the State Cabinet in this case to the President of the Republic. This act is said to be unconstitutional.
- Yesterday (18.5.2022) the Defense Research Advanced Institute and the Indian Navy successfully conducted a missile test to destroy warships from a helicopter. The missile, which was manufactured entirely domestically, was tested off the coast of Chandipur, Orissa.
- The study found that the death toll from air and chemical pollution rose by 66%. The study was conducted jointly by the Lancet Commission and the Porur Sri Ramachandra Research Institute. An international study on pollution and health impacts was published in 2017.
- The Government of India plans to launch an Indian Institute of Technology abroad. President Ramnath Govind has said that Jamaica is the first theater to hold this event.
- The Government of Kerala has launched the first Government OTT platform in India. It has been reported that this OTT site will be operational from November 1st. Named C-Space, the site is expected to compete with Amazon and Netflix.
- Russia’s sophisticated interceptor missile system, the S400, will be deployed by India next month, according to US intelligence.
