- இந்தியத் துப்பாக்கிச் சுடுதல் வீரர் மைராஜ் அகமது கான் ஐஎஸ்எஸ்எஃப் துப்பாக்கிச் சுடுதல் உலகக்கோப்பையில் ஆடவர் ஸ்கீட் பிரிவில் முதன் முதலாக தங்கம் வென்று வரலாறு படைத்தார். 40 ஷாட்கள் கொண்ட இறுதிப் போட்டியில் உத்தரப்பிரதேசத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவரான மைராஜ் அகமது கான் 37 முறை சரியாகச் சுட்டு தங்கம் வென்றார். கொரியா வீரர் மின்சு கிம் 36 புள்ளிகளுடன் வெள்ளியும் பிரிட்டனின் பென் லெவெலின் 26 புள்ளிகள் பெற்று வெண்கலமும் வென்றனர்.
- துணை ஜனாதிபதி தோ்தல் ஆகஸ்ட் 6-ஆம் தேதி நடைபெறவுள்ளது. இந்தத் தோ்தலில் பாஜக தலைமையிலான தேசிய ஜனநாயகக் கூட்டணி வேட்பாளராக மேற்கு வங்க ஆளுநா் ஜகதீப் தன்கா் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டார். இந்த அறிவிப்பைத் தொடா்ந்து ஆளுநா் பதவியை ஜகதீப் தன்கா் ராஜிநாமா செய்தார். அவரின் ராஜிநாமாவை ஜனாதிபதி ராம்நாத் கோவிந்த் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டார். இதையடுத்து மணிப்பூா் ஆளுநராக பதவி வகிக்கும் இல.கணேசனுக்கு மேற்கு வங்க ஆளுநராகக் கூடுதல் பொறுப்பு வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்தநிலையில், மேற்கு வங்க மாநிலத்தின் ஆளுநராக இல.கணேசன் பதவியேற்றுக்கொண்டார். இல.கணேசன் மணிப்பூர் ஆளுநராக உள்ள நிலையில் கூடுதல் பொறுப்பை கவனிப்பார் என்று தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
- நாட்டின் 16வது குடியரசுத் தலைவர் தேர்தலுக்கான வாக்களிப்பு நேற்று காலை 10 மணிக்கு ஆரம்பமாகி மாலை 5 மணிக்கு நிறைவடைந்தது. தேர்தலில் 99.18% வாக்குகள் பதிவாகி உள்ளதாக தலைமைத் தேர்தல் அலுவலர் பி.சி. மோடி கூறியுள்ளார். குடியரசுத் தலைவர் தேர்தல் அமைதியாக நடைபெற்று முடிந்துள்ளதாகவும் அவர் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.
நாட்டின் குடியரசுத் தலைவராக உள்ள ராம் நாத் கோவிந்தின் பதவிக்காலம் வரும் 24 ஆம் தேதியுடன் முடிவடைய உள்ளதை அடுத்து இன்று புதிய குடியரசு தலைவருக்கான தேர்தல் நேற்று நடைபெற்றது. பாஜக தலைமையிலான தேசிய ஜனநாயக கூட்டணி சார்பில் திரௌபதி முர்மு, எதிர்க்கட்சிகள் சார்பில் யஷ்வந்த் சின்ஹா போட்டியிட்டனர். இந்த தேர்தலில் மின்னணு இயந்திரங்கள் பயன்படுத்தப்படவில்லை. அதற்கு பதிலாக வாக்குச்சீட்டு நடைமுறையில் தேர்தல் நடத்தப்பட்டது. இதன்படி எம்பிக்களுக்கு பச்சை நிறத்திலும், எம்எல்ஏக்களுக்கு இளஞ்சிவப்பு நிறத்திலும் வாக்குச்சீட்டுகள் வழங்கப்பட்டது.
தேர்தல் ஆணையத்தால் வாக்களிக்க அனுமதிக்கப்பட்ட 727 நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் மற்றும் 9 சட்டமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள் உட்பட 736 வாக்காளர்களில், 730 பேர் வாக்களித்தனர். பல்வேறு மாநிலங்களின் உதவி தேர்தல் அதிகாரிகள் இன்று மாலையே சாலைகள் மற்றும் விமானங்கள் வழியாக சீல் வைக்கப்பட்ட வாக்குப் பெட்டிகளுடன் வரத் தொடங்குவார்கள். டெல்லி விமான நிலையத்தில் இருந்து நாடாளுமன்றத்திற்கு வாக்குப் பெட்டிகளை பாதுகாப்பாக எடுத்து செல்ல தேவையான பாதுகாப்பு ஏற்பாடுகள் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. வாக்கு எண்ணிக்கை வரும் 21ஆம் தேதி காலை 11 மணிக்கு தொடங்கும் என அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. குடியரசுத்தலைவர் தேர்தலில் வெற்றி பெற்றவர் யார் என்று அன்றைய தினமே தெரிய வந்து விடும்.
- அகில இந்திய துப்பாக்கி சுடும் போட்டியில், தமிழக என்சிசி மாணவர்கள் பதக்கப் பட்டியலில் 2-ம் இடம் பிடித்தனர். இந்திய தேசிய துப்பாக்கி சங்கம் சார்பில், தேசிய மாணவர் படை இயக்குநரகங்களுக்கு இடையேயான, அகில இந்திய துப்பாக்கி சுடுதல் போட்டி, பஞ்சாப் மாநில தலைநகர் சண்டிகரில் நடைபெற்றது. கடந்த 5-ம் தேதி முதல் 15-ம் தேதி வரை நடந்த இப்போட்டியில், தேசிய மாணவர் படையின் 17 இயக்குநரகங்களைச் சேர்ந்த மாணவர்கள் பங்கேற்றனர்.
அதன்படி, தமிழகம், புதுச்சேரி மற்றும் அந்தமான் அடங்கிய தேசிய மாணவர் படை இயக்குநரகம் சார்பில், பல்வேறு கல்லூரிகளைச் சேர்ந்த 17 தேசிய மாணவர் படை மாணவர்கள் போட்டிகளில் பங்கேற்கத் தகுதி பெற்றனர். இதில், 12 மாணவர்கள் துப்பாக்கி சுடுதல் போட்டியில் பங்கேற்றனர். இப்போட்டியில், தமிழக மாணவர்கள் 4 தங்கம், 2 வெள்ளி மற்றும் ஒரு வெண்கலப் பதக்கத்தை வென்று, ஒட்டுமொத்த பதக்கப் பட்டியலில் 2-வது இடத்தைப் பிடித்தனர்.
- தரமான கல்வியை அளிப்பதில் தேசிய அளவில் சிறந்து விளங்கும் கல்லூரிகளுக்கான தர வரிசைப் பட்டியல் சென்னை மருத்துவக் கல்லூரி 12-ஆவது இடத்தைப் பிடித்துள்ளது. மத்திய கல்வி அமைச்சகம், ஆண்டுதோறும் சிறப்பாக செயல்படும் பல்கலைக்கழகங்கள், கல்லூரிகள் மற்றும் கல்வி நிறுவனங்களை பல பிரிவுகளின் கீழ் தரவரிசைப்படுத்தி பட்டியல் வெளியிடுகிறது. அதன்படி நிகழாண்டு தரவரிசைப் பட்டியலில் சென்னை மருத்துவக் கல்லூரி 12-ஆவது இடத்தை பிடித்துள்ளது. மேலும், மாநில அரசால் நடத்தப்படும் மருத்துவ கல்லூரிகளில் முதலிடம் பெற்றுள்ளது.
- தென்னிந்தியாவிலேயே முதன்முறையாக மருத்துவப் பயிற்சிக்காக சென்னை மருத்துவப் பள்ளியானது கடந்த 1835-ஆம் ஆண்டு பிப்ரவரி 13-ஆம் தேதி தொடங்கப்பட்டது. அதன் பின்னா் படிப்படியாக அங்கு பட்டப் படிப்புகள் அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்டன.
- சென்னைப் பல்கலைக்கழக நீட்சியாக சென்னை மருத்துவப் பள்ளியை கல்லூரியாக மாற்ற விண்ணப்பிக்கப்பட்டது. அது ஏற்கப்பட்டு கடந்த 1850-ஆம் ஆண்டு அக்டோபா் 1-ஆம் தேதி சென்னை மருத்துவப் பள்ளியானது சென்னை மருத்துவக் கல்லூரியாக மாற்றப்பட்டது.
- மாநிலங்களவை எம்.பி.க்களாக அண்மையில் தோ்வான முன்னாள் மத்திய அமைச்சா்கள் ப.சிதம்பரம், கபில் சிபல், முன்னாள் கிரிக்கெட் வீரா் ஹா்பஜன் சிங் உள்பட 28 போ் திங்கள்கிழமை பதவியேற்றனா்.
- தமிழக அரசின் தமிழ் வளர்ச்சி மற்றும் செய்தித் துறை சார்பில் ‘தமிழ்நாடு திருநாள்’ விழா சென்னை கலைவாணர் அரங்கில் நேற்று (18.7.2022) நடைபெற்றது. இதைத்தொடர்ந்து 2021-ம் ஆண்டுக்கான ‘இலக்கிய மாமணி’ விருதை கு.சின்னப்ப பாரதி சார்பில் அவரது குடும்பத்தினருக்கும், கோணங்கி மற்றும் இரா.கலியபெருமாள் ஆகியோருக்கும், ‘தமிழ்த் தென்றல்’ திரு.வி.க.விருதை கயல் (கோ) தினகரனுக்கும், ‘கபிலர்’ விருதை பாவலர் கருமலைத் தமிழாழன் (எ) கி.நரேந்திரனுக்கும், ‘உ.வே.சா.’விருதை மருத்துவர் இரா.கலைக்கோவனுக்கும், ‘அம்மா இலக்கிய விருதை’ முனைவர் மு.சர்குணவதிக்கும், ‘காரைக்கால் அம்மையார்’ விருதை முனைவர் இரா.திலகவதி சண்முகசுந்தரத்துக்கும் வழங்கினார்

- Indian shooter Mairaj Ahmed Khan created history by winning the first ever men’s skeet gold at the ISSF Shooting World Cup. In the 40-shot final, Uttar Pradesh’s Mairaj Ahmed Khan shot 37 rounds to win the gold. Korea’s Minsu Kim won the silver with 36 points and Britain’s Ben Llewellyn won the bronze with 26 points.
- Vice President will be held on August 6. West Bengal Governor Jagadeep Tank was announced as the BJP -led National Democratic Alliance candidate. Following the announcement, Jagadeep Tank has resigned from the post. President Ramnath Govind accepted his resignation. Subsequently, the Governor of Manipur who is the Governor of Manipur, has been given additional responsibility as the Governor of West Bengal. In the meantime, Ganesan was sworn in as Governor of West Bengal. It has been reported that Manipur is the governor of Manipur.
- Voting for the 16th presidential election of the country started yesterday at 10 am and ended at 5 pm. Chief Electoral Officer P.C. said that 99.18% votes have been registered in the election. He also said that the presidential election has been conducted peacefully.
After the tenure of Ram Nath Kovind, who is the President of the country, is going to end on the 24th, the election for the new President was held yesterday. Draupadi Murmu contested on behalf of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance and Yashwant Sinha on behalf of the opposition parties. Electronic machines are not used in this election. Instead, the election was conducted by ballot. Accordingly MPs were given green ballot papers and MLAs were given pink ballot papers.
Out of 736 voters, including 727 Members of Parliament and 9 Assembly Members, who were allowed to vote by the Election Commission, 730 voted. Assistant Election Officers from various states will start arriving with sealed ballot boxes by roads and planes this evening. Necessary security arrangements have been made for safe transportation of ballot boxes from Delhi Airport to Parliament. It has been announced that the counting of votes will begin at 11 am on the 21st. The winner of the presidential election will be known on that day itself
- Tamil Nadu NCC students stood 2nd in the medal list in All India Shooting Competition. The National Rifle Association of India organized the All India Shooting Competition between National Student Corps Directorates in Chandigarh, the capital of Punjab state. Students from 17 Directorates of National Students Corps participated in the competition which took place from 5th to 15th.
Accordingly, 17 National Student Corps students from various colleges were qualified to participate in the competitions on behalf of the Directorate of National Student Corps comprising Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman. In this, 12 students participated in the shooting competition. In the competition, students of Tamil Nadu bagged 4 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals and stood 2nd in the overall medal tally.
- Chennai Medical College has been ranked 12th in the national ranking of best colleges in imparting quality education. The Union Ministry of Education annually publishes a list of best performing universities, colleges and educational institutes under various categories. Accordingly, Chennai Medical College has been ranked 12th in the current ranking list. Also, it ranks first among the medical colleges run by the state government.
- Madras Medical School was started on 13th February 1835 for medical training for the first time in South India. After that gradually degree courses were introduced there.
- An application was made to convert the Chennai Medical School into a college as an extension of the University of Chennai. It was accepted and on 1st October 1850, Madras Medical School was changed to Madras Medical College.
- Former Central Ministers P. Chidambaram, Kapil Sibal and former cricketer Harbhajan Singh, who recently became Rajya Sabha MPs, took oath on Monday.
- The ‘Tamil Nadu Thirunaal’ ceremony was held yesterday (18.7.2022) at Chennai Kalaivanar Arena on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Development and Information Department.
