  1. 18-07-22 இன்று சர்வதேச நெல்சன் மண்டேலா தினம். நிறவெறிக்கு எதிராக போராடியவரும், தென்னாப்பிரிக்காவின் முன்னாள் அதிபருமான நெல்சன் மண்டேலா (1918), தெற்காசியாவின் முதல் பெண் மருத்துவரும், பிரிட்டிஷ் பேரரசின் முதல் பெண் பட்டதாரிகளில் ஒருவருமான காதம்பினி கங்குலி (1861) பிறந்த நாள்.

 

  1. குடியரசு தலைவருக்கான தேர்தல் இன்று நடைபெறும் நிலையில் நாடாளுமன்ற வளாகத்தில் உள்ள வாக்குச்சாவடியில் எம்.பி மற்றும் எம்.எல்.ஏ-க்கள் வாக்களிக்கிறார்கள்.
    1. இந்த தேர்தலில் எதிர்க்கட்சிகளின் பொது வேட்பாளராக யஷ்வந்த் சின்காவும் பாஜகவின் தேசிய ஜனநாயக கூட்டணி வேட்பாளராக திரெளபதி முர்முவும் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டு உள்ளனர்.
    2. இதில் முர்முவிற்கு என்டிஏ கூட்டணி கட்சிகள் தவிர்த்து ஒய்எஸ்ஆர் காங்கிரஸ், பகுஜன் சமாஜ், பிஜு ஜனதா தளம், மதசார்பற்ற ஜனதா தளம், சிரோன்மணி அகாலி தளம், சிவசேனா, ஜார்கண்ட் முக்தி மோர்ச்சா ஆகிய கட்சிகள் ஆதரவளித்துள்ளன.
    3. இதனால் 60 சதவிகிதத்திற்கும் அதிகமான வாக்குகளை பெற்று முர்மு வெற்றிபெற வாய்ப்புகள் உள்ளன. நாடு முழுவதும் சுமார் 4,800 எம்.எல்.ஏக்கள், எம்.பிக்கள் இத்தேர்தலில் வாக்களிப்பர்.
    4. மின்னணு வாக்குப்பதிவு இயந்திரங்கள், மக்களவை மற்றும் மாநில சட்டசபைகள் போன்ற நேரடி தேர்தல்களில் வாக்குகளை திரட்டும் தொழில்நுட்பத்தை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்டவை.
    5. தேர்தல் ஆணையத்தின் உத்தரவுப்படி, எம்.பி.க்களுக்கு பச்சை நிற வாக்குச்சீட்டும், எம்.எல்.ஏ.க்கள் வாக்களிக்க இளஞ்சிவப்பு நிற வாக்குச்சீட்டும் வழங்கப்படும். ஒவ்வொரு எம்.எல்.ஏ மற்றும் எம்.பி.யின் வாக்கின் மதிப்பைக் கண்டறிய தனித்தனி வண்ணங்கள் தேர்தல் அதிகாரிக்கு உதவுகின்றன.
    6. வாக்களிப்பதில் ரகசியம் காக்க, தேர்தல் ஆணையம், குடியரசுத்தலைவர் தேர்தலில் வாக்காளர்கள் தங்கள் வாக்குச் சீட்டைக் குறிக்கும் வகையில், வயலட் மையுடன் பிரத்யேகமாக வடிவமைக்கப்பட்ட பேனாவை வெளியிட்டுள்ளது
  1. குடியரசு துணைத் தலைவர் தேர்தல் எதிர்க்கட்சிகளின் பொதுவேட்பாளராக மார்கரெட் ஆல்வா அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார். காங்கிரஸ் கட்சி மூத்த தலைவர்களில் ஒருவரான மார்கரெட் ஆல்வா மத்திய அமைச்சராகவும், ஆளுநராகவும் பணியாற்றியுள்ளார்.

 

  1. மணிப்பூா் ஆளுநராக பதவி வகிக்கும் இல.கணேசனுக்கு மேற்கு வங்க ஆளுநராகக் கூடுதல் பொறுப்பு வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. குடியரசு துணைத் தலைவா் தோ்தல் ஆகஸ்ட் 6-ஆம் தேதி நடைபெறவுள்ளது. இந்தத் தோ்தலில் பாஜக தலைமையிலான தேசிய ஜனநாயகக் கூட்டணி வேட்பாளராக மேற்கு வங்க ஆளுநா் ஜகதீப் தன்கா் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டார். இந்த அறிவிப்பைத் தொடா்ந்து ஆளுநா் பதவியை ஜகதீப் தன்கா் ராஜிநாமா செய்தார். அவரின் ராஜிநாமாவை குடியரசு தலைவா் ராம்நாத் கோவிந்த் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டார்.

 

  1. இந்தியாவில் கோவேக்சின் மற்றும் கோவிஷீல்டு தடுப்பூசிகளை நாட்டு மக்களுக்கு கடந்த ஆண்டு ஜனவரி 16-ந்தேதி முதல் மத்திய அரசு இலவச அடிப்படையில் வழங்கி வருகிறது. இந்த சூழலில், நாடு முழுவதும் 200 கோடி கொரோனா தடுப்பூசி டோஸ்கள் செலுத்தப்பட்டதாக மத்திய சுகாதாரதுறை மந்திரி மன்சுக் மாண்டவியா அறிவித்தார்.

 

  1. கடந்த ஜூன் 29ஆம் தேதி நிறைவடைந்த ஜிஎஸ்டி கவுன்சில் கூட்டத்தில் வரி திருத்தம் பற்றி பல்வேறு முடிவுகள் எடுக்கப்பட்டன. இதன்படி, வரி திருத்தம் இன்று (ஜூலை 18) முதல் அமலுக்கு வருகின்றன. இன்று முதல் எந்தெந்த பொருட்கள் அல்லது சேவைகளுக்கு விலை உயருகிறது என்பதை பார்க்கலாம்
    1. பேக்கேஜ் செய்யப்பட்ட, பிராண்டிங் செய்யப்பட்ட பால், தயிர், மோர், பனீர், லஸ்ஸி, அரிசி, கோதுமை மாவு, தானியங்கள், அப்பளம், வெல்லம், இறைச்சி, மீன் ஆகியவற்றுக்கு 5% ஜிஎஸ்டி விதிக்கப்படும்.
    2. மேற்கூறிய பொருட்களில் 25 கிலோவுக்கு மேல் (உதாரணமாக 30 கிலோ) வாங்கினால் ஜிஎஸ்டி கிடையாது என மத்திய அரசு தெளிவுபடுத்தியுள்ளது.
    3. வங்கிகள் விநியோகிக்கும் காசோலை புத்தகத்துக்கு (Cheque Book) வசூலிக்கப்பட்டும் கட்டணத்துக்கு 18% ஜிஎஸ்டி விதிக்கப்படும்.
    4. மருத்துவமனைகளில் ஒரு நாளுக்கு 5000 ரூபாய்க்கு மேல் வாடகை வசூலிக்கப்படும் அறைகளுக்கு 5% ஜிஎஸ்டி விதிக்கப்படும்.
    5. ஒரு நாளைக்கு 1000 ரூபாய்க்கு கீழ் வாடகை வசூலிக்கப்படும் ஹோட்டல் அறைகளுக்கு 12% ஜிஎஸ்டி விதிக்கப்படும்.
    6. LED பல்புகள் மற்றும் லைட்டுகளுக்கு 18% ஜிஎஸ்டி விதிக்கப்படும்.
    7. வரைபடங்களுக்கு (Maps) 12% ஜிஎஸ்டி விதிக்கப்படும்.
    8. பிளேடு, கத்திரிக்கோல், பென்சில் ஷார்ப்னர், ஸ்பூன், ஃபோர்க், ஸ்கிம்மர், கேக் சர்வர் பொன்ற பொருட்களுக்கான ஜிஎஸ்டி 18% ஆக உயர்த்தப்பட்டுள்ளது.

 

  1. பிலிப்பைன்ஸ்க்கும் சீனாவுக்கும் இடையே தென் சீன கடல் தொடர்பான பிரச்னை நீண்ட காலமாக இருந்து வருகிறது. இதனால் தனது ராணுவத்தை நவீனப்படுத்தும் முயற்சியில் பிலிப்பைன்ஸ் இறங்கி உள்ளது. தென் சீனக் கடலில் சீனாவின் ஆதிக்கத்தை சமாளிக்கும் வகையில், பிலிப்பைன்ஸ் அரசு இந்தியாவிடம் இருந்து ரூ.2770 கோடி மதிப்பு பிரம்மோஸ் ஏவுகணைகளை வாங்க கடந்த ஜனவரியில் ஒப்பந்தம் செய்தது. .இந்நிலையில், இந்தியாவிடம் இருந்து நவீன இலகு ரக ஹெலிகாப்டர்களை வாங்க பிலிப்பைன்ஸ் திட்டமிட்டுள்ளது. இதுகுறித்து மூத்த ராணுவ அதிகாரிகள் கூறுகையில்,‘‘பிலிப்பைன்ஸ் விமான படையில் உள்ள பழைய ஹெலிகாப்டர்களுக்கு மாற்றாக  இந்தியாவின் நவீன இலகு ரக ஹெலிகாப்டர்களை வாங்க அந்த நாடு விருப்பம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது. இதற்காக நடந்து வரும் இருதரப்பு இடையே பேச்சுவார்த்தை நடந்து வருகிறது. அதே போல் தேஜாஸ் ரக போர் விமானங்களின் செயல்பாடுகள் நன்றாக இருப்பதால் அவற்றை வாங்குவது பற்றியும் அவர்கள் பரிசீலனை செய்யக்கூடும்’  என்றனர்.

 

  1. ஐஎன்எஸ் சிந்துத்வாஜ், 35 ஆண்டுகளாக மிகச்சிறந்த முறையில் சேவையாற்றி,  ஜூலை 16  சனிக்கிழமையன்று இந்திய கடற்படையிலிருந்து விடைபெற்றது. சிந்துத்வாஜ்  நீர்மூழ்கிக் கப்பல் கடலின் கொடி தாங்கியாக பல சாதனைகளை நிகழ்த்தியுள்ளது. தற்சார்பு இந்தியா என்னும் இந்திய கடற்படை முயற்சிகளின் நோக்கை நிறைவேற்றும் வகையில் ரஷ்யாவின் சிந்துகோஷ் வகையைச் சேர்ந்ததாகும். உள்நாட்டு சோனார் USHUS, ருக்மணி என்னும் சுதேசி செயற்கைக்கோள் தகவல் தொடர்பு அமைப்புகள் மற்றும் எம்எஸ்எஸ், இன்டிரியல் நேவிகேஷன் சிஸ்டம் மற்றும் உள்நாட்டு டார்பிடோ ஃபயர் கண்ட்ரோல் சிஸ்டம் ஆகியவற்றின் செயல்பாடுகளை இது உள்ளடக்கியதாகும். பாரம்பரிய நிகழ்ச்சியானது சூரிய அஸ்தமனத்தில் நடத்தப்பட்டது, 35 வருட சிறப்பான பணிக்குப் பின்னர் நீர்மூழ்கிக் கப்பலானது கடற்படையிலிருந்து விடைபெற்றது.

  1. 18-07-22: Today is International Nelson Mandela Day.Birthday of Nelson Mandela (1918), anti-apartheid activist and former president of South Africa, Kathambini Ganguly (1861), South Asia’s first woman doctor and one of the first female graduates of the British Empire.

 

  1. MPs and MLAs are voting in the polling station in the Parliament complex as the election for the President of the Republic is being held today.
    1. In this election, Yashwant Sinha has been announced as the general candidate of the opposition parties and Thirelapathi Murmu has been announced as the candidate of the National Democratic Alliance of the BJP.
    2. Apart from NDA allies, YSR Congress, Bahujan Samaj, Biju Janata Dal, Secular Janata Dal, Shironmani Akali Dal, Shiv Sena and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha have supported Murmu.
    3. Thus Murmu is likely to win by getting more than 60 percent of the votes. Around 4,800 MLAs and MPs across the country will vote in this election.
    4. Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are based on technology that collects votes in direct elections like Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.
    5. According to the Election Commission, MPs will be given green ballot papers and MLAs will be given pink ballot papers to vote. Separate colors help the Returning Officer to determine the value of each MLA and MP’s vote.
    6. To maintain the secrecy of voting, the Election Commission has released a specially designed pen with violet ink for voters to mark their ballot papers in the presidential election.

 

  1. Margaret Alva has been announced as the general candidate of the opposition parties for the vice-presidential election.Margaret Alva, one of the senior Congress leaders, has served as a Union Minister and Governor.

 

  1. Ganesan, who holds the post of Governor of Manipur, has been given additional responsibility as the Governor of West Bengal. The election of the Vice President of the Republic will be held on August 6. West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar has been announced as the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance candidate in this election. Following this announcement, Jagdeep Dhankar resigned from the post of governor. President Ram Nath Kovind accepted his resignation.

    1. Packaged, branded milk, curd, buttermilk, paneer, lassi, rice, wheat flour, cereals, waffles, jaggery, meat, fish will be subject to 5% GST.
    2. The central government has clarified that there is no GST if the above items are purchased above 25 kg (eg 30 kg).
    3. 18% GST will be levied on the charge for check book distributed by banks.
    4. 5% GST is levied on rooms in hospitals where the rent is above Rs 5000 per day.
    5. 12% GST is levied on hotel rooms charged below Rs 1000 per day.
    6. LED bulbs and lights are subject to 18% GST.
    7. Maps are subject to 12% GST.
    8. GST on blades, scissors, pencil sharpener, spoon, fork, skimmer, cake server has been increased to 18%.

 

  1. The South China Sea dispute between the Philippines and China has been going on for a long time. As a result, the Philippines is embarking on an effort to modernize its military. To counter China’s dominance in the South China Sea, the Philippine government signed a deal last January to buy BrahMos missiles worth Rs 2,770 crore from India. In this case, the Philippines is planning to buy modern light helicopters from India. According to senior military officials, the country has expressed interest in purchasing modern light helicopters from India to replace the old helicopters in the Philippine Air Force. Negotiations are ongoing between the two sides for this. Also, they may consider buying Tejas fighter jets as they are performing well,” he said.

Russia’s Sindhu Gosh class to fulfill the Indian Navy’s ambitions of a self-reliant India. It includes the functions of indigenous sonar USHUS, indigenous satellite communication systems called Rukmani and MSS, Intrepid Navigation System and indigenous Torpedo Fire Control System. A traditional ceremony was held at sunset as the submarine bid farewell to the Navy after 35 years of distinguished service.
